This fall will mark the debut of my second book, Marco Polo Didn't Go There: Stories and Revelations From Once Decade as a Postmodern Travel Writer. This unorthodox collection of travel stories should be out in September, and I'll add new details about it on my blog and Books page as that date draws nearer.

After a winter in Brazil, Chile and the Falkland Islands, I spent much of the spring on my farm in Kansas, working on several magazine articles, as well as the final draft of my new book. This summer has me back out on the road, in Canada, the U.S. East Coast, Paris (where I teach my annual creative nonfiction class at the Paris American Academy), and East Africa (where I'll be reporting a story for the New York Times Magazine). This fall I'll be back in the U.S., promoting my book in over a dozen American cities. In time I will post an "Events" page that will give details on the book tour.

In the writing world, I've recently had stories appear in some new literary anthologies, including The Best Creative Nonfiction, Vol. 2 and The Best Travel Writing 2008. I've also had a story about B-movies appear in The Believer, reviews of Eat, Pray, Love and Smile When You're Lying appear in World Hum, and a short piece about Brazil in Surfer. Upcoming stories include a story about the Falklands for National Geographic Traveler, an article about Brazil for Islands, and a New York Times Magazine article set in Africa. I've also recently appeared in interviews for National Geographic Traveler, the Times Online (U.K.), and the Travel Channel.
